Is the hCG diet all it’s cracked up to be?

ANOTHER DAY, another diet and this week we have a diet that dates back to the 1950s and actively uses a hormone produced in pregnancy to promote rapid weight loss.

The only missing thing is sound scientific evidence to show it actually works the way it says it does.

Human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG is one of the hormones produced in pregnancy to support a developing foetus. It was initially linked to weight control after an association was observed between the presence of hCG and a reduction in hunger and appetite.

Furthermore it was claimed that the added benefit of injecting hCG was that the hormone helped to redistribute fat deposits, mobilising long-term fat stores from the hips, thighs and buttocks to help significantly alter body composition and reset the metabolism.

Fast-forward 50 years and today a number of pharmacists still offer a weight loss program that includes the hCG hormone.

hCG is now commonly administered via an oral solution with dieters taking it daily as drops under the tongue while they simultaneously follow a 500 calorie diet. It is claimed that using this method can help dieters shed as much as 7kg in a three-week period.

In daily food terms, a 500 calorie day includes 2-3 very small meals of a couple of hard boiled eggs, a small piece of fish and a cup of salad or vegetables. Generally speaking any diet that slashes calories to such an extent will be extremely effective in achieving rapid weight loss, if dieters can adhere to it.

Every buyer and every insurance company is different, but here are a few general ideas that can apply to almost every health insurance situation:

To defray the cost of medical expenses, you should carry health insurance. Even though you may have a savings account, medical bills can still wipe you out financially because they are often much more than any cash you may have on hand. For instance, an appendectomy can cost as much as $32,000 and heart surgery can be as high as $100,000, depending on what you're having done. These are expenses that would have to come out of your pocket, if you don't have insurance.

To lower the cost of your health insurance plan, make the most of wellness incentives. Many companies give employees cash bonuses to fill out a lifestyle questionnaire which asks about habits such as smoking and exercise. Obtaining a better score on the lifestyle questionnaire can lower the health premiums for all your company's employees.

A good money saving tip for health insurance is to ask your company if they offer an employee wellness plan. A lot of employers have incentives when their employees have their lifestyles and health assessed. You might be able to get lower premiums and sign up for a fitness program for instance.

Health insurance may not completely cover the cost of birth control or well-woman visits with your physician. An alternative to a regular gynecologist is Planned Parenthood, which offers exams, counseling and birth control on a sliding scale, meaning the amount you are charged is based on your ability to pay. County health clinics may also offer these services.

If you are short of cash, consider taking out a short term health insurance plan. Short term health insurance policies usually costs less and the application process is fast. Los Angeles clinic puts underprivileged community at greater risk of contracting coronavirus, health care workers say

LOS ANGELES — The largest health care provider in South Los Angeles, which serves low-income African Americans and Latinos, is putting some of the city's most vulnerable residents at risk of contracting the coronavirus by having patients come in for routine appointments, according to some medical professionals who work there.

As the coronavirus batters minority communities, some medical professionals said they are concerned that the facility, St. John's Well Child and Family Center, is disregarding a key federal guideline intended to protect people from the contagion, which recommends that medical facilities reschedule nonessential appointments.

Seven medical professionals, including doctors and nurses, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of losing their jobs, said that they have taken their concerns to the chief administrator of St. John's several times but that the practice has not stopped. Shortly after the professionals spoke with NBC News, two said they were fired.

St. John's CEO Jim Mangia said he could not comment on personnel matters, but said the only reason a provider would be terminated would be for "a malpractice issue or severe behavioral issues."

Full coverage of the coronavirus outbreak

As of mid-April, the professionals said, 50 percent to 80 percent of patients they see in a day have no pressing medical concerns and should have had their appointments rescheduled or converted to telephone or video appointments to avoid potentially exposing them or others to the virus, which has killed more than 68,000 people in the U.S.

Los Angeles clinic puts underprivileged community at greater risk of contracting coronavirus, health care workers say

The clinics serve an area where the proportion of people living below the poverty line is more than double the national average, according to census data. Many patients live in multifamily homes or homeless shelters and have chronic medical conditions, compounding their chances of contracting and spreading the coronavirus, the eight professionals said. African Americans and Latinos have been disproportionately affected by the coronavirus, according to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"My fear is that once it hits this patient population, it will be the epicenter of L.A.," one of the professionals said.

When the coronavirus broke out, some of the professionals called patients to reschedule routine visits and refill prescriptions over the phone, but they were quickly reprimanded by management and told not to call their own patients, they said.

"This is the first place I've worked that as a provider I'm not given the autonomy to care for them [my patients] medically," one of them said after having encountered resistance to suggesting that patients with non-urgent needs be moved to telehealth visits.

"When you're suppressing the expertise, the knowledge, the morals, the morale of providers who are here to take care of an underserved people, you're almost just kind of re-oppressing them," the professional said.

Simple Advice On Elegant Plans For telehealth technology

Points To Ponder Over On Health Insurance

Health insurance. They aren't dirty words - at least, they don't have to be. If you spend a little time learning how to get the best health insurance you can reap surprising benefits. Every buyer and every insurance company is different, but here are a few general ideas that can apply to almost every health insurance situation:

Consider high deductible health insurance policies. If you are young and healthly with no family history of serious health problems, a high deductible health insurance policy could be suitable for you. These policies make health insurance coverage much more affordable, but make should that you are aware of medical problems which aren't covered by the policy.

Before re-enrolling with your current health insurance company, check to see if their policies are changing. Some companies are increasing their rates, and if yours is, you will feel it when you re-enroll. Check around with other insurance companies to make sure you are still getting the best deal available.

If you cannot afford insurance, you can try a few things to get the medical treatment you need. Many states offer insurance to qualified people, as well as clinics, that offer care for a sliding scale fee. The money that you save, can offer you the chance to get health insurance later.

Avoid replacements to health insurance plans. Some alternatives to health insurance plans offer very specific coverage. While they might cover anything from cancer to Ebola, they are mostly useless to you. Save the money you would be throwing away on them. Just buy a proper health insurance plan, when you can afford it.

When purchasing health insurance make sure that the underwriting terms of the insurance policy meet your requirements. Many health insurance provides now exclude all pre-existing medical conditions. Make sure that you fully understand the financial and health implications of this restriction when considering whether the health insurance policy is suitable for you.

Understand the differences between a PPO policy and a HMO policy if you want to receive the best possible level of care with your health insurance. You not only have to think about what's best for you, but also what's best for your children - if they should happen to fall ill or suffer an accident.

Researching health insurance prices by getting quotes from multiple insurance companies helps you find a good health insurance policy at an affordable rate. You can use forms online to submit a quote request from multiple companies at once and it is also advisable to check with local health insurance companies for quotes as well.

Before getting a prescription filled, you should hand the pharmacist your insurance card. Some companies will actually pay a percentage of medication prescriptions for their customers. That means that you could save money on your prescriptions. You can look online to see what your policy does and does not cover.

Increase your out-of-pocket expenses. The majority of insurance companies have an option with lower monthly premiums if you are prepared to pay higher out-of-pocket payments like a yearly deductible or more for prescription medications. This is a great plan for someone who is in general good health and doesn't anticipate any major medical bills in the near future.

If you want to save money, you should choose an HMO plan. You will pay less every month, and very low or no deductibles. But you will be limited to a list of approved doctors and hospitals. If this list satisfies you, choosing an HMO plan is the best decision.

When choosing a health insurance plan or coverage make sure your doctor is included in the network. You wouldn't want to sign up for insurance because the cost is low only to find out your doctor isn't included in the plan. It's best to check this out before getting the policy.

If you want to have a large choice of hospitals and doctors to go to, you should apply for a PPO plan. PPO plans are more expensive than HMO plans and have higher deductibles. But with an HMO plan, your will be limited to certain doctors and hospitals. If you can afford a PPO plan, you should apply for one and keep your options open.

When you buy health insurance, you should become familiar with your local regulations and laws regarding it first. An example of this is the wording regarding preexisting medical conditions. Is there any current legislation that already provides you with protection for this scenario? Knowing about the local regulations can help you to be sure that you are being afforded all of the options you are entitled to by your insurance carrier.

It is worth investigating government insurance plans if you need health insurance. The income requirements are often higher than you would expect and even if you do not qualify for free health insurance, discounted rates may be available. These plans can be invaluable if you are ill and have recently been denied insurance.

To help you pick the right health insurance plan, get a sense of your current health needs and lifestyle. Based on that, select a health insurance provider that will charge you the best deductible based on living a healthier lifestyle. This way, you can save money on your health insurance while being encouraged to live healthier.

Compare health insurance plans and read the limitations of each plan carefully. You do not want to choose a plan and later find out that it does not cover the procedure that you had assumed it covers. If the policy has unclear language, ask an insurance representative to explain it to you clearly.

Choose a low deductable plan for health insurance. With some insurance types, a high deductable is a good choice for lowering premiums. However, health insurance is not one of them. Unless you have the full deductable amount available for use when you need it, it is a better idea to choose a plan with a lower deductable, even if it means an increase in premiums.

In summary, you want to be careful who you take advice from with regards to health insurance. It is important to you that you have the correct information and that is is portrayed in a clear and concise manner. Hopefully the tips provided in this article will be more than useful for you.

New Guidelines For Intelligent Solutions For telehealth online

Health Insurance Is A Neccessity In Life

No matter how knowledgeable you think you are about health insurance, there is always a way to make finding the right policy for your needs, just a little easier by listening to the good advice found in the article below. Try some of these tips to make sure you are getting the most value for your money.

To save money on your health insurance plan, do not be fooled by plans with offers that are too good to be true. For instance, some plans may not require any fees for particular everyday preventative care, but do not have the benefits that many other health insurance plans offer.

Providing your family with dental insurance, not only helps to promote the health of their teeth and gums, but their bodies, as well. Research has linked periodontal disease with strokes and heart disease. In fact, a staggering number of systemic diseases cause oral complications, such as ulcers and inflamed gums, so early detection of these problems by a qualified dentist, could alert you that the underlying cause is a serious disease, such as diabetes, cancer or leukemia. Left unchecked, oral infections could also spread throughout the body, causing inflammation of organs or heart valves and resulting in complications of the digestive system. Nearly 50% of Americans do not have dental insurance and as a result, many of them do not receive adequate dental care. Don't let your family be a part of this statistic.

Consider high deductible health insurance policies. If you are young and healthly with no family history of serious health problems, a high deductible health insurance policy could be suitable for you. These policies make health insurance coverage much more affordable, but make should that you are aware of medical problems which aren't covered by the policy.

Learn the strict coverage details of your health insurance policy. While your policy may state that it covers emergency visits, some hospitals and doctors charge separately for your care. Your policy may cover the hospital's charges, but not the doctor's. If you are unsure about how your company handles this, call them and ask.

Even if you think you have found the perfect health insurance company, it does not hurt to look around for others. By shopping around, you may find that there is an even better health insurance company for you and your specific needs. You may even check here save money by looking around.

Take your time when shopping for a new health insurance plan. The last thing that you want to do is rush this decision. It could end up costing you hundreds of thousands of dollars in the future if you rush to enroll in a program that is not right for you and your family.

When shopping for your next insurance plan, consider the importance of prescription coverage. Some policies offer it, but the premiums are often higher. If you only take one or two prescription medications a year then you might be able to do just as well with a card from your local pharmacy.

Before you make the jump and purchase a health care plan you should find out what kind of plan will best suit you. There are 3 very different plans to choose from, which include, HMO, PPO and POS plans. You should research which one will work best for you before making a final decision.

When choosing the right health insurance policy for you and your family, it is extremely important to shop around and research the different ones. Choosing the best valued health insurance can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year. The cost savings from plan to plan can be very dramatic.

If you have very good health and do not know of any medical issues that run in your family, then it is relatively safe to choose a minimum health insurance coverage. The price is linked to coverage. So, why pay for something you are not going to use?

Take your time when shopping for a new health insurance plan. The last thing that you want to do is rush this decision. It could end up costing you hundreds of thousands of dollars in the future if you rush to enroll in a program that is not right for you and your family.

If you like your current doctor and you do not want to change providers then you need to make sure that you find out whether he or she is one of the network providers before signing up with any company. Many health insurance companies will not cover you if you see a doctor that is out of the network.

Check to see if the health insurance your employer is offering you is a "grandfathered" plan as it could offer you many exemptions that a private insurer no longer can. The beauty of a group plan is that it is not covered by changes to insurance law, but new people can join at any time.

If you are changing health insurance policies, you will need to consider your current doctor. If you have had this doctor for a long time, you may feel reluctant to lose him because your insurance does not work with him. If you will have a difficult time changing, consider your choices in advance.

Know the terms when you are getting into health insurance. A deductible is the cost you will pay out of pocket at the time of service. This cost is above and beyond the cost of your actual insurance premiums. Make sure you know what this amount will be before you accept a policy.

Before having any sort of medical procedure done, give your insurance a quick call to confirm if you need pre-authorization for it first. Most of the time the answer will be no and you'll be done, but those few times the answer is yes you will have just saved yourself a lot of heartache come claims time.

Safety for Essential Providers Using Telemedicine and Telehealth

It is no longer necessary for patients to drive or commute to an appointment, which can be difficult for some patients with no immediate access to transportation. Thus, healthcare workers have more time on-site for appointments with patients who require a physical checkup in-office.

Patients often visit providers when feeling sick, so it can be a risk to everyone at a healthcare provider’s office, including staff and the other patients. Implementing telehealth means providers can limit the spread of infection of not just COVID-19 but other infectious diseases as well.

Telehealth technology can also be utilized for the prescreening of patients prior to their appointment and visitation to the office. With a prescreen, providers can ascertain as to whether it is necessary to conduct an on-site checkup, thereby reducing patient numbers attending the office.

Enabling providers to see the patient’s home environment can also help facilitate diagnosis. For example, a patient with certain allergies could be suffering from a chronic condition due to unknown variables within the home environment.

Providers can determine the issues within the home that could be exacerbating patient symptoms. Patients can also better explain to doctors their daily routine using their home environment and, therefore, acquire a more accurate diagnosis.

Telehealth saves healthcare provider costs while also saving patients money. Patients no longer need to travel, thereby reducing money spent on transportation, and the ability to take a consultation from home or even at work, limits the sick days or amount of time patients need to be absent from work.

Simple Advice On Deciding Upon Aspects For telehealth technology

Telehealth and telemedicine for coronavirus: What it is and how to use it now

What is telemedicine?

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, telemedicine is defined as “the practice of medicine using technology to deliver care at a distance. A physician in one location uses a telecommunications infrastructure to deliver care to a patient at a distant site.”

Testa says his hospital is using telemedicine both within and outside the hospital to manage the influx of patients needing care. “We're using video visits inside of our hospitals, and inside of our emergency departments, to minimize exposure to our staff, as well as exposure to other patients who are immunocompromised,” he says.

How to use telemedicine

A good place to start is to check with your health care provider, provider system or hospital’s app for a telemedicine portal, download it and follow the prompts.

“We've been doing video visits for over a year and a half — we've already done about 15,000 of them,” says Testa. “What we've learned in interviewing our patients is that more often than not, they had plans to either go to their primary care doctor and it is off-hours, or they had planned to go to a brick-and-mortar urgent care. Virtual urgent care is just more convenient than those options.”

At NYU Langone, for example, Testa says these video visits are fully integrated into patients’ online health profiles, and visible to their primary care doctors who can easily see what labs or X-rays have been ordered.

If you don’t have a primary care doctor and prefer to use urgent care when you need it, virtual urgent care apps, like PlushCare, Doctor on Demand or MDLive, can give you virtual access to a doctor, 24/7.

Ryan McQuaid, CEO and co-founder of PlushCare, says that under normal circumstances, patients who use his telemedicine platform tend to use it as a primary care provider.

He says these patients usually fall into three buckets: They use telemedicine to manage ongoing conditions, like depression, diabetes or hypertension; everyday care issues like hair loss or birth control; and urgent care issues, like cold and flu, sinus infections or UTIs. And their patients aren’t just tech-forward millennials — McQuaid says elderly patients have begun to embrace telemedicine.
